Kinja'd!!!

I know exactly how you feel, you want something you might not necessarily be able to afford right now and you're worried that by the time you will be able to afford it, they will be gone. See this M3, I want it. I want one of the last analog BMW M's, before the e46 body style, before Chris Bangle, before all this safety and emissions shit happened. I also want to buy a NEW BMW with an I6 and a manual. ONE NEW BMW, before the Eco-wienies and nanny states win. I am a sophomore in high school, hell I wont have my driver's license until February 13, 2015. I want to be a doctor, and there is a lot of schooling involved, and a lot of costs involved. But if I have to, I will stretch my self thin to afford a new F3x M3/4 if it is the last M with a manual. My mom keeps saying "you probably don't need a car", and that's true, I probably don't. I won't know until February at the soonest what/if financial help I'll receive from my family (though my grandparents have hinted at buying or at least helping me) but I'm prepared to take out a loan and work my ass off for what I want. I want that e36 because eventually only the very rich will have not shitty examples, and I want to experience a reasonably mechanical car once at least before the analog era cars disappear forever.

Well done.

And for some ridiculous reason, the new M3/4 is called the F8x platform.

I have the same feelings with the 2003/2004 Cobras. I was this close to selling my 95 and getting one two years ago and my wife and I found out we were expecting our 2nd child. I put it on the back burner and wonder now when I can get one there will be no good ones left and too old to enjoy.

if you can't guess from my profile pic, I have a GLI. I loved the GLi. I lusted for the GLI. I adored the GLI.

now that I have one, I don't anymore. it has flaws. the undefeatable TCS. the lack of HP. the price I got it at (overpayed like an idiot) and the lack of RWD.

I want something else. I know I don't even deserve this, but I want more.... It's a human condition to want more. and I've been called spoiled for wanting more, and I want to disagree with that notion. you're not spoiled if you want more than you have. you're aspiring

Never would have guessed (sarcasm). I think that's true with anything, though I've gotten to the point where there are 3 things my life is lacking and needs. A girl, a dog, and a BMW. The BMW will be the easiest of the 3 to get I'm sure!

And to your second point, does anybody really deserve anything? I've been blessed to have a wonderful family, who would do almost anything for me. I like in a nice house, in a beautiful area, have 2 grandparents still, never have been hungry, and have traveled. What did I do to deserve this life while the kid born after me at the hospital may live on Ramen and work to support his family at 15?

woah.

I'm 15, licensed about a month after you, and I'm pretty much in the same situation. I'm mainly looking at either a Datsun 240/280z or an E36 M3. My parents would rather have me wait until my senior year of high school and use the money I save up as a downpayment for an accord. No thanks. There's a PERFECT datsun for sale right now.. But it's $6k and I only have $1100.. I'm only making about $450 a month (only work weekends, VA labor laws) so by the time I have the money it'll be long gone.

I fear that E36 M3's will become hard to find in good condition for reasonable prices. It's already becoming increasingly hard to find one locally.. There's only 2 good Datsuns locally right now, so I really need to save up before I miss my chance and the value in them rises.. And they WILL rise soon enough.

I also have a sibling in college, and another going to college after '16 so it's pretty tough convincing my parents to help me buy a car older than I am.

If push came to shove I could get a loan from my grandparents and my dad is on my side. My mom however, is a control freak and I think she's against me having a car physiologically (her first baby is growing up). My mom, if anything, wants me to get some Honda from an old person) (read: automatic, base trim, etc.)

You're not an imbecile. You're just experiencing what it's like to make a major purchase and then have some buyers remorse. I understand. No matter how happy I am with something I buy I end up wanting something else.

Stop beating yourself up so much.

Suggestion - instead of writing a post like the one you made you can just talk to your close friends on Oppo about it in the comments. Creating a whole post brings in lots of people, and some of them say mean things that make you feel a lot worse than you did before creating the post in the first place.

Dear kids whom are unhappy with their current pretty nice car situation.

Nearly EVERYONE has things they want or aspire to own in life. EVERYONE

The issue most are having here with the incessant whining is that most of us don't publicly bitch about it all the time. If you want something, go fucking get it, but don't expect it to just happen now because you think you deserve it or because it may not be there in a few years. Whatever.

Put your god damn head down and Just. DO. WORK

Kinja'd!!!2

I get this bad. There are so, so many cars that I want that are unappreciated by most people. Cars like the Alfetta, Triumph TR8, Rover SD1, Maserati Biturbo will pretty much all be gone in the not-too distant future (or already are pretty much gone), victims of rust and neglect. The only ones left will be rare and expensive.

Not only that, but I've grown massively disillusioned with modern cars. There isn't a single car made by the manufacturers I like that I like that isn't hideously expensive. Furthermore, the only car that I would want that I might be able to afford (the Alfa version of the new MX-5) has been cancelled. Plus, the only manufacturer that I would actually buy a car from that isn't in jeopardy at the moment is Jaguar.

So basically, I'm tied to driving classic cars for the rest of my life. Classic cars that are a finite resource, the ones I like more finite than most.

This scares me.

Depression is a real thing, and nothing to ignore. It's a chemical imbalance in the brain. My mom has suffered from it for many, many years, and we almost lost her several times...

Please do what you need to to get yourself some help with these feelings. There are a lot of people in your life (as well as here on OPPO) who care about you and want to see you do well.

I hope you were able to get to sleep last night. It'd probably be therapeutic to get off your computer and take a long drive, or a hike, or whatever it is that you really enjoy doing and that helps clear your mind. I think finding some curvy back roads and tearing through them for an hour will probably help you gain some love back for your ST.

Have you talked to the counselors at school before about these feelings? I personally think of medication as a last resort, but if you really can not shake these thoughts of hopelessness for extended periods of time, there's something really wrong, and there are medications that can help.

Kinja'd!!! K-Roll-PorscheTamer > davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com
11/13/2014 at 10:55

Kinja'd!!!0

I did, I need my computer for classes and work. I've also got another class in 8 minutes. There are no curvy roads around me(seriously, Google Maps).

Counselors have never helped me before. I've given up on that kind of help. I don't want/need medication, that shit is scary.

Kinja'd!!! davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com > K-Roll-PorscheTamer
11/13/2014 at 11:08

Kinja'd!!!0

Sorry about the lack of curvy roads... not too many great ones really close to me, either. Some guys from work and I occasionally go seek them out (NW Arkansas is a few hours from here, and we try to take weekend trips in the spring and fall). Any other guys/gals you know that would be willing to blow a day just to go on a road trip in search of fun roads? Even if you end up going solo, a no-reason road trip can be a great break from the grind. Trust me, it's worth it. Maybe find a cool little auto museum in the area to check out as a destination.

Perhaps you just haven't found the right counselor yet. Just don't give up. I know that the though of medication is scary, but it's scarier to think of what might happen if you can't get these sorts of feelings your having under control.

11/13/2014 at 11:15

Kinja'd!!!0

I've tried both counselors here(the only two for that matter), neither helped me. I can't go on a no-reason trip because I want there to be something at the end, a purpose for actually doing something. I hate doing things alone, but no one would go with me if I asked.

I'm just sad.

What in your life right now is causing you this suffering?

Like I mentioned in an earlier comment, I'd focus on finding contentment, not necessarily success. There are plenty of people who the world would not consider particularly successful that love their job and life, and plenty who would be viewed as very successful that are completely miserable and lost.

Many things:

1. I'm not doing as well as I could in school(motivation is low, and it has to do with everything else too).

2. Stress(everyone and everything is putting all the weight of the world and future on my shoulders.

3. I'm unsuccessful/hopeless with girls

4. I'm also black, which has to do with everything else

5. I'm just not happy with life and there's nothin I can do to change it, because of 1-4.

Kinja'd!!! davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com > K-Roll-PorscheTamer
11/13/2014 at 14:07

1 - I'm guessing the majority here can say they've had similar issues with school/work. It doesn't help, but know that you're definitely not alone there. Maybe playing Mustang GT audio clips on repeat while you study will help with motivation - ha!

2 - I get it. It sucks. But to the best of your ability, put everyone else's expectations of you out of your mind. If you figure out want you want to do, and are working toward that goal for yourself, they should be very supportive. If anyone in your life chooses not to be, that's on them.

3 - Definitely been there. I have no idea how I ended up with the girl who is now my wife of 14 years, and mother of my children. Full disclosure: I'd never even been on a real date before meeting her. Maybe I'm just lucky/blessed, but I think that there's someone out there for everyone. Perhaps getting involved in a couple new clubs at school would put you in contact with some girls that you haven't yet met. Does your school have a Formula SAE club? That's something I wish I'd gotten involved with. Not sure if there will be girls there, but it will be an outlet for your passion, and guys who are passionate about what they do are more attractive to the opposite sex.

4 - I'm so white I can't ever own a convertible, so I'm not sure if I can help you here...

5 - There's always something you can do to make a change. And while I don't know you personally, it seems like you have a lot in your life to be happy and thankful for if you step back and take a look. As best you can, focus on the things that do make you laugh and give you joy, and put these sorrowful thoughts out of your head. Find a way to get passionate about your schoolwork, spend time with your family (at least the ones that build you up), and strengthen old friendships or work to kindle new ones.

That feeling never changes. If you can conceivably make it happen and afford it, do it. Even if you have to work your ass off. There will always be that one car that always seems out of your reach. So don't think that once you get that E36 you'll be fulfilled by it. But at the same time, don't put off something until it's more realistic. Don't make excuses for why you can't buy it now and you should get it later, because later never comes. Why not now? This one is the dream for me, and I really can't afford it now. Hopefully one day, and hopefully when I have the money I won't make excuses.

Kinja'd!!!
